Removing Minerals from Water

The quality of the applied water is important for processes where heating, humidifying, or cooling is involved, or when the water is used as a raw material for preparing food, cleaning products, and medicines. This prevents deposits in cooling, central heating, and boiler systems and ensures the quality of water for cleaning products, medicines, soft drinks, beer, and distilled products.

The technique of 'reverse osmosis' separates organic substances, viruses, and bacteria from tap or spring water. This makes osmosis water a requirement for many of these applications. It is also frequently used as process water for industrial applications, and as raw material in the medical and cosmetic sectors, usually in combination with a fine filter and/or a water softening system.

How It Works

Wairtec regeneration

Under pressure, the raw (tap) water is forced through a semi-permeable membrane. The small water molecule passes through the membrane filter. The contaminants in the water are blocked by the membrane.

The membrane modules are placed under pressure in a circulation loop. Membrane fouling is prevented by the use of turbulence, created by the cross-flow action of the membranes. About 50 – 25% of the contaminated water is continuously drained to the sewer. The produced "Permeate" (Reverse Osmosis water) contains only about 1% of the salts present in the feed water.
